FAQ
Is my information confidential?
Yes, your information is confidential. We are not saving or tracking any
information from the Cost-Of-Production Calculators.
How long does it take to fill out the Calculators?
The amount of time it takes to fill out the Calculators depends upon you. It
will help to have your Production Cost Figures on hand prior to beginning
the Calculators. If you have your costs on hand, the calculators will take 30-45
minutes minimum.
How do I use the information from the calculators?
Understanding your costs of production is key to making the right decisions
for your business. The information you receive from the Calculators can
be used to make changes to your practices, to better understand the impacts
of one practice compared to another, or can be provided to lenders and bankers
when you are seeking funding.
What if I want to go back and edit my figures after I have calculated
my costs?
You can edit your costs after you have calculated. Just click the EDIT button
on the Results Summary Page. The Cost-Of-Production Calculators automatically
retain your cost data, for one calculator, up to one year, through a cookie
placed on your computer. If you delete the Calculator cookie, your costs will
be deleted and you will have to re-enter the costs. The last cost production
figures that you enter will be the ones retained.
Do I have to enter my costs in a certain order?
Yes. You must first enter costs on the required Capital, Production, Vineyard
Spacing and Materials Costs pages. Once you enter those costs, you may move
freely through all pages of the Calculator. Prior to entering costs on the
two required pages, you are not able to access the year pages.
Do I have to enter every cost?
The more costs you enter, the more accurate your results will be. No fields
are required.
Can I save my information?

What are the default costs?
Default costs are pre-entered into the Calculator fields to help growers
who may not know each cost. The default costs were created using average industry
costs provided by growers and suppliers. If you want to use a default
cost, but are unsure if it is similar to your own cost, click on the s symbol
to find out how that cost was calculated.
If you want to use your own costs, just delete the default number from the
field and replace with a your actual cost. Once you replace a default cost,
the calculator will highlight the new cost and ask if you wish to proceed. If
you do, click yes.

Who created the calculators?
The Calculator was made possible with funds from a partnership grant between
the Washington Wine Industry Foundation and the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC), through the Risk
Management Agency (RMA) titled: Grower Decision-Making Tools for Grapes and
Tree Fruit.
A team of grape growers and suppliers in Washington, Oregon and Idaho provided
guidance and tested the calculators.
